The major Broadway hit and the winner of the 2001 Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award for best play, PROOF by David Auburn, is running July 2 through July 13th at the Peterborough Players. They will be offering a special deal for tickets on the Fourth of July, of $14.00 per ticket. So, come celebrate the 4th at the barn and experience the fireworks of brilliant performances and luminescent writing.

The most honored new American play in recent memory, this play centers on Catherine, an unconventional and confused young woman who has spent years caring for her father, a renowned mathematician. After he dies, her estranged sister returns home, an ex-student of her father's starts rummaging through his papers and a groundbreaking mathematical proof is discovered among his notebooks forcing Catherine to confront her past, present, and future in ways she never imagined. After an explosive revelation comes the most difficult problem of all: how much of her father's genius - or madness - will she inherit? The New York Times called PROOF "an exhilarating and assured new play...accessible and compelling as a detective story." Auburn has created a marvelously rich and mysterious play about family, love and loss using the device of the mathematical theorem. Regarding its wide appeal he says: "We all aspire to be like our parents in certain ways, and worry that we are becoming them in other ways. "This play is rated PG-13 and contains some adult language.

Making a triumphant return to the Players' stage in the role of Catherine, after taking a summer off to have her first child, is Sevanne Martin. Players audiences will recognize her from previous performances in OUR TOWN, SYLVIA, EDUCATING RITA, TEN LITTLE INDIANS, THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST, and OLEANNA to name a few. She is joined by other regulars, Lisa Bostnar, Michael Page, and Jon L. Egging. Ms. Bostnar just finished the critically acclaimed, season opening production of GOING TO ST. IVES. The production is directed by Gus Kaikkonen, with sets by Bob Barnett, lights by John Ambrosone, costumes by Miriam Jones, and original music by Ellen Mandel.

The Peterborough Players is sponsored in part by the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, the New Hampshire Humanities Council, the A. Erland and Hazel M. Goyette Memorial Fund, and the Grimshaw-Gudewicz Charitable Foundation.

Season subscriptions are now on sale at the Players Box Office. For reservations and further information, call (603) 924-7585, tickets are also available online at the Peterborough Players web site: www.peterboroughplayers.org.
