CANDIDA At The Peterborough
Players
July 8, 2003
Written by George Bernard Shaw and first produced in 1904 CANDIDA not only
salutes the old, established institution of marriage, but skewers it as
well. The most produced playwright in Players' history, has given us a warm
and witty play that both challenges the conventional wisdom about relationships
between the sexes and presents a delightful trio of characters- a young
poet, a self-assured (and self-satisfied) vicar, and the vicar's wife Candida.
It challenges and entertains. MORE>

The Space Pandas
Have Arrived At The Peterborough Players
June 15, 2003
Young scientist, Binky Rudich believes there are two kinds of time. As
he tries to explain the two-speed clock he has invented to his friends,
Vivian and Bob (a talking sheep), the three find themselves swept to a
faraway planet called Crestview, the fourth world in the Goolagong system.
There, the trio discovers a world where dollars are kapoks, everybody
eats lunafish casserole, giant talking pandas are peacekeepers, and a
ruthless dictator named George Topax reins supreme. When Topax kidnaps
Bob, steals the two-speed clock, and threatens to take away everybody's
movie privileges, things really begin to get interesting. Will Binky find
a way to fix the two-speed clock? How will Viv turn in her science paper?
Can the kids get back to earth in time for lunch? MORE>
GOING TO ST. IVES
Opens Peterborough Players Season
June 8, 2003
The Peterborough Players are opening their 70th anniversary season with
Lee Blessing's compelling and timely new play, GOING TO ST. IVES. It will
run June 18 to June 29. Performances are Tuesday through Saturday at 8pm,
Sunday the 22nd at 7pm and Sunday the 29th at 4pm. A psychological drama
that raises questions of life and death, this play chronicles three meetings
between the mother of a despotic African dictator who travels to England,
ostensibly seeking surgery, and the prominent ophthalmologist who treats
her. Her true motive, however, is shocking and sets in motion a chain
reaction of events with personal and political reverberations. Both women
will be changed in ways they never imagined. GOING TO ST. IVES presents
two impressive women whose political and cultural differences define and
divide them as they each attempt to accomplish the greatest good. The
Philadelphia CityPaper called GOING TO ST. IVES "spectacular...emotionally
and intellectually engrossing." MORE>
