At the 2005 Annual Meeting February 12, the Peterborough Players presented Audrey White with the Edith Bond Stearns Award for Distinguished Service. Ms. White joins only 11 other winners in the 72 year history of the Players.

Prior Stearns Award recipient and current Players Board President Bob Pettegrew presented the award to Ms. White, citing her twenty-plus year history with the Peterborough Players. She served as a member of the Board of Trustees from 1986-1996, including serving as president from 1993-1996 during the national search that culminated in the hiring of Gus Kaikkonen as Artistic Director and Keith Stevens as Managing Director. Along with Cathie Runyon, she co-founded “In The Wings”, the Players’ volunteer organization, and in that capacity introduced hundreds of people to the theatre. She managed the box office for years, provided actor housing, hosted closing night parties, and also was on staff as House Manager and Director of Community Relations.

Following a standing ovation, Ms. White thanked the audience and shared a few reminisces about the Players. “This theatre has always been a special place for me,” she said. “This is a real honor from a place that I love. Thank you so much.”

Earlier in the evening, Pettegrew announced that the Players had won six awards in the professional theatre category at the third annual New Hampshire Theatre Awards, which covered the 2004 season. For their work in LAUGHING STOCK, Sevanne Martin was named best supporting actress in a play, Michael Page was named best supporting actor in a play and Charles Morey won the award for best original play. For their work in ABOUT TIME, Gus Kaikkonen was named best director of a play and James Whitmore was named best actor in a play. The production of ABOUT TIME was honored as best professional play.

The Peterborough Players is sponsored in part by the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Monadnock Community Foundation, the A. Erland and Hazel M. Goyette Memorial Fund, and the Grimshaw-Gudewicz Charitable Foundation. Corporate Sponsors of the 2005 season committed to date include Monadnock Paper Mills and Ocean National Bank. Co-sponsors include Rivermead and Belletetes.
