Whitmore Stars in Inherit the Wind With His Son June 10, 2005 Contact: Jon L. Egging, Marketing Director, (603) 924-9344 The third show of the Peterborough Players ‘05 season is Inherit the Wind by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee. It is the dramatized version of the 1925 "Scopes Monkey Trial" which took place in East Tennessee. The 17-performance run begins July 13 and ends July 31 and will feature James Whitmore as William Brady and James Whitmore Jr. as Henry Drummond. The play is inspired by a moment in American history when world attention focused on the small town of Dayton, Tennessee as two legal titans battled over the state law banning the teaching of Darwin’s Theory of Evolution. Inherit the Wind
features a large cast, including stage and screen star James Whitmore
and his son, actor and director James Whitmore Jr. in the lead roles.
Also featured are Sevanne Martin, Kraig Swartz, Jon L. Egging, Dale Hodges,
Michael Page, and more, all familiar to local audiences for their previous
work with the Players. Local performers associated with the community
theater ACT and others will portray some of the townspeople who unexpectedly
found themselves at the center of an international media event. Performance times for the two-act drama with one intermission are: 8:00 p.m., Tuesday -Saturday; with matinees at 4 p.m. on Sundays. The Peterborough Players is sponsored in part by the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, the New Hampshire Humanities Council, and the Grimshaw-Gudewicz Charitable Foundation. The 2005 Media Sponsor is the Keene Sentinel. Season subscriptions are now on sale at the Players Box Office. For reservations and further information, call (603) 924-7585, or visit the Peterborough Players web site at www.peterboroughplayers.org. Inherit the Wind is rated “PG,” and is sponsored by Monadnock Paper Mills. |
