Provide Talent for Players Production of Picnic Contact:
Picnic takes place in the backyards of two houses in Kansas during Labor Day weekend. One house belongs to Flo Owens, who lives there with her two maturing daughters, Madge and Millie, and a boarder, Rosemary Sydney, who is a spinster school teacher. The other house belongs to Helen Potts, who lives with her elderly and invalid mother. This neat little feminine world is thrown into chaos with the arrival of Hal Carter, a mischievous and irresistible drifter who upsets the orderly, low-key town with his false stories and macho behavior. Inge's exploration of small town life and his focus on family relationships has struck a chord with audiences since its debut in 1953 and we hope you will enjoy it too. Nine ConVal, Conant, and Milford students including
Julia Bascom, Caroline Eichler, Emily Fernandes, Griffen Fletcher, Christina
Howard, Caity Joy, Sam MacIntire, Kel Sauer, and EliseWilliams have been
cast along with a three professional actors James M. O’Connell,
Kathy Manfre, and Jon L. Egging in this production. It is a chance to
give the students, most of who are interested in pursuing a theatrical
career, a chance to work in a professional theatrical environment. They
are asked to work on a professional schedule and are supported by a design
and production team from the Players. The show is directed by Players
Artistic Director Gus Kaikkonen, Franklin Pierce professor Lee Dunholter
is designing the set, Lisa Liebetrau is designing the costumes and Craig
Lindsay from Keene State is designing the lights. This production is sponsored in large part by a gift from the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation – Monadnock Division and the McIninch Foundation. Season subscriptions are now on sale at the Players Box Office.
