| Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland To Delight Young Audiences June 23, 2007 Contact: Jon L. Egging, Marketing Director, (603) 924-9344 or jlegging@peterboroughplayers.org The captivating tale of one girl’s journey and imagination comes to life at the Peterborough Players as Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland opens June 29th and runs through July 28th. Join Alice as she journeys to Wonderland, meets the worried and frantic White Rabbit, the silly Mad Hatter, the ever-sly Cheshire cat and the tyrannical Red Queen among others. Carroll originally conceived "Alice" as a gift of tales for a beloved girl. Today, it is acknowledged as a portrait of our own blissfully insane world. Deborah Lynn Frockt’s adaptation relies on strong characterizations, unconventional staging, and inventive costumes to plunge the audience into Carroll's topsy-turvy dream world and proves to be a timeless classic that will delight children and adults of all ages. Performed by the Players’ Second Company, the play celebrates the Peterborough Players’ ongoing commitment to telling stories for all audiences that reflect our entire community. Please join us in this joyful fantasy journey while also celebrating diverse experiences, friendship and family. The Second Company is made up of members of the Peterborough Players Intern and Apprentice Company. It consists mostly of students who are pursuing a career in theatre and they come from around the country. These are the people who run the theatre during the summer, building sets, being backstage, greeting patrons as ushers, maintaining the grounds and facilities, and assisting where ever needed, all while mounting their own shows, participating in weekend cabarets and trying to eat on a regular basis. It is a challenge, but one that they gladly take up. At the end of the summer one of the interns will be awarded the James Whitmore Award for Excellence along with a cash prize. The award is given to the intern who best embodies the ideals of the Peterborough Players and has shown the most promise of a long career in the theatre. They are judged not only on their stage performances, but on their abilities to be well rounded theatre professionals. Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is recommended for ages 4 and up and will make a great morning out for the whole family. Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is rated “G”. The Peterborough Players is sponsored in part by the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Grimshaw-Gudewicz Charitable Foundation. The 2007 Media Sponsor is the Keene Sentinel, and the 2007 Season Sponsor is Monadnock Paper Mills. Season subscriptions are now on sale at the Players Box Office. For reservations and further information, call (603) 924-7585, or visit the Peterborough Players web site at www.peterboroughplayers.org. |
