Local High Schools Provide Talent for Players Production of Harvey

Thanks to a grant from the Goyette Fund of the New Hampshire Charitable Fund as well as strong community support, the Players will produce the Ascending Stars Project, HARVEY, its eighth collaborative project with area schools. Past productions have included: A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM, PEG O’ MY HEART, LIGHT UP THE SKY, LA DISPUTE, LOVE’S LABOURS LOST, MUSEUM, and last year’s critical success PICNIC. This year’s production will feature the best in local high school talent working alongside professional actors, directors, designers, and technicians. This production is scheduled for June 5 through June 8.

When Elwood P. Dowd (Jon L. Egging) starts to introduce his imaginary friend, Harvey, a six foot rabbit, to guests at a society party, his sister, Veta (Kathy Manfre), has seen as much of his eccentric behavior as she can tolerate. What follows is a hilarious and poignant play that will leave you with a smile.

Eight students from ConVal and Conant, including Emily Fernandes, Kody Grassett, Alice Hale, Erin O’Laughlin, Anastasia Stevens, Karissa Vincent, Elise Williams, and Greg Yerkes have been cast along with a four professional actors; Jose Docen, James M. O’Connell, Kathy Manfre, and Jon L. Egging in this production. It is a chance to give the students, most of who are interested in pursuing a theatrical career, a chance to work in a professional theatrical environment. They are asked to work on a professional schedule and are supported by a design and production team from the Players.

The show is directed by Players Artistic Director Gus Kaikkonen, with sets designed by Franklin Pierce professor Lee Dunholter, and Players production staff members Jessa-Raye Court and Eric Larson are designing the costumes and lights respectively.

So, treat yourself to a pre-season kick-off and witness the ASCENDING STARS in action.
